NANSEN RING FOR FORMER REFUGEE

Dr. Paul Weis received the Golden Nansen Ring, an award to persons who have special merits in assisting refugees. Dr. Weis was born in Vienna 63 years ago and came to England after his release from Dachau Concentration Camp in August, 1939 During the war, he was a member of the Committee on the Status of Stateless Persons of the Grotius Society and secretary of the Free Austrian Movement. From 1944-1947 he was secretary of the Legal Section of the Research Committee of the World Jewish Congress (British Section). From 1947 until he reached retirement age in 1967 he was associated as legal adviser with international relief agencies, first with the International Refugee Organisation and, later, with the United High Commissioner for Refugees. The Nansen Ring was awarded to him for his contribution to refugee law and the law of asylum.
